The proportion of social networks to daily social interactions is changing. My families are some examples—My dad always comes home from work and lays on the couch for hours playing on his phone, going to bed at the end of the day and not interacting with me and my mom;Since I came to the UK, I feel like I’ve been stay up until 2 or 3am on my phone every day;My grandpa has been watching videos and movies on his iPad every afternoon since he got it;And as long as my friend doesn’t go out, he can stay at home and play computer games all day.
The inspiration of the work comes from many news and phenomena I see. Nowadays, people are very dependent on mobile phones and social networks. I think this part of social mode can be called virtual social, which greatly affects people's behavior. I want to make people realize that virtual things are becoming real, and real social behaviors are not so real.
I hope to make this phenomenon into a device work. I carry out 3D experiments on many elements of social networks, such as filters, expression packs, recycle bins, etc., because these elements have entered our real life in large quantities. Through the creation process, I reflect on whether a large number of data and 2D images make people ignore the real touch, weight and space when people are immersed in data media such as mobile phones.
